AMCL organizes a workshop in DigitalFutures 22 for the second year in a rowA hybrid interdisciplinary workshop organized by the Mechanical Engineering Department and the Department of Architecture at the American University in Cairo (AUC). The workshop utilizes the facilities of the Additive Manufacturing Centennial Lab (AMCL) and the Robotic Fabrication Lab (RFL). The workshop aimed at introducing concepts and techniques of both robotic wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) and robotic clay 3D printing. The primary objective of the workshop was to design and fabricate non-planar artistic forms in both metal and clay. Workshop participants attended online lectures and tutorials via Zoom, in addition to following via live- streaming the physical robotic fabrication of a prototype at both; the Additive Manufacturing Centennial Lab (AMCL) and the Robotic Fabrication Lab (RFL).

AMCL Participates in DigitalFutures 21 With a WAAM WorkshopThe Additive Manufacturing Centennial Lab’s took part in the annual international conference of DigitalFutures by organizing an interdisciplinary workshop organized jointly with the Architecture Departments at the American University in Cairo (AUC), Egypt. Utilizing the facilities of the Additive Manufacturing Centennial Lab (AMCL), the workshops aims at introducing concepts and techniques of robotic 3D metal printing for architects, with the primary objective of fabricating complex architectural geometries and forms with considerable topological optimization and reduction in material waste in comparison to other conventional manufacturing processes. The workshop focused on introducing students to the concepts and applications of WAAM and robotics in architecture, including WAAM design principles and fabrication strategies, and robotic programming and simulation.

AMCL Featured On AUC TodayAMCL was recently featured in the latest edition of AUC TODAY. AUCToday is a biannual magazine produced by the Office of Marketing Communication and Public Affairs at The American University in Cairo. Distanced, virtual, and unpredictable. Last year we witnessed the world entirely transform in just the span of a few months. And what we thought would be a matter of just those months turned into a year, and is now likely the matter of a lifetime. Looking Beyond COVID explores that lifetime — the future that has been shaped by the quick changes and prompt decisions made to safeguard our health, but which also made us rethink the very way we live. So what happens next? How will we live in a post-covid world? We searched within AUC for those answers.

AMCL takes on Cairo Innovates
|
Cairo Innovates is an annual international exhibition that aims to activate interest and enthusiasm for science and innovation, increasing Egypt’s productivity and global competitiveness. Cairo Innovates, serves as a hub and platform for stakeholders from across various fields: innovators, scientists, mentors, accelerators, incubators, investors, and crowdfunding platforms. In its latest installment, AMCL joined the Cairo Innovates exhibition with a presentation of our capabilities in the emerging WAAM/R field.
